Alien's Day Out

VMF Day 16: "Please sir. May I have some more?"

Oats for breakfast reminds me of my boarding school days when we used to get bowls of gloppy oat porridge (think Oliver Twist with a bowl of sad gruel) that pretty much every student hated. And the ‘chocolate porridge’ they gave us wasn’t any better either- it was just poo-brown and even more unappetizing. So boarding school pretty much turned me off of eating oats for a very very long time. But now, having some distance between me and those horrifying breakfast memories, I can say that I have matured to the point where I can appreciate the occasional bowl of warm oat porridge.

With the addition of some spices and fruit, my oats are transformed into a delicious breakfast. This ain’t no boarding school glop! Plus, oats are apparently very healthy, and a great way to get energized for the daily grind at work (and ofcourse, a cuppa coffee helps too)!

  1. That looks perfectly delicious!
I just love your blog! I appreciate finding out about Korean culture, as my Dad was born in Korea, but was adopted by an American soldier during Korean War. That´s why I sadly could never meet my Korean ancestors.

  2. Urk, I have my own childhood oatmeal trauma (cold, brownish so-called choc-oatmeal alike), – but have reconciled with oatmeal since.

Hurrah for both of us !
(and that last picture makes me WANT!!!! NOW!!!!)

  3. That's some perfect oatmeal!

  4. Wow. Looks good.

  5. Wow. I'm in Korea too. Where are you managing to find these oats? They cost a fortune on gmarket.

  6. yea, oats can be expensive in Korea. A few places where I've seen oats are costco, or the Itaewon foreign food mart. Or you can order it online here:
