The last time I visited High Street Market was back in March, and since then, they have made some noticeable changes and improvements to their shop that I think are worth blogging about. One thing I really love about HSM is their store ambiance. It’s so different from the other foreign food markets here in that everything just feels more inviting and rustic which I love. And since my last visit, the store is definitely more fully stocked with additional shelves and a greater diversity of products.
Before, I mentioned that omnivores would be more excited about shopping there for deli meats, cheeses, and sandwiches. Well, I’m thrilled to say that since then, HSM has made their shop significantly more veg*n-friendly! For example, in their deli/bakery/cafe section, you can get a veggie sandwich, tahini, hummus, and also coffee with soy or almond milk! Yup, they now serve and sell almond milk, made in-house.
Oh, and wot’s dis?? I’m now baking vegan treats for High Street Market! They set aside one side of their cafe section just for vegan Alien’s Day Out goodies, which got filled up with chocolate chip-cherry scones, lemon ginger scones, plum oatmeal crunch bars, brownies, banana bread, zucchini bread, carrot bread, orange cranberry muffins, mocha choc chip muffins, classic snickerdoodles, chocolate almond cookies, and gluten free lemon drops. Check out the “Vegan Baked Goodies” sign they made. :)
Burger buns, nuts, dried fruits, nut butters, jams, snackimals (some are vegan). For all you wine-lovers, they have a notably good selection, and even a barrel of discounted wines for as low as 10,000 a bottle. And if wine’s not your thing, how about some IPA beer?
Another recent change that I really love is the new seating area on the side, where you can enjoy your lunch or snack whilst overlooking Itaewon street. It’s comfortable and relaxing, not to mention, being surrounded by so many non-Korean products just might transport you to your happy place. :) Honestly, if I lived or worked in the area, I would probably stop by here for breakfast or lunch pretty regularly.
To sum up, I’m thrilled that HSM is catering to the demand for more vegan options in Seoul. I just hope the customers’ response is good so that they continue in this direction. They are not a veg*an store by any means, as they are probably most well known for their specialty meats and cheeses, but it’s nice to see a foreign food store stepping things up in the vegan department. Now they have a little of everything, for everyone.
