Last Friday, Yona and I finally opened the shop part of PLANT studio, and since then it has just been a whirlwind of activity and non-stop baking. The last week or so has been one of the busiest I’ve had in a looong time, but also one of the most gratifying and exciting. On opening day, I was feeling nervous and anxious about how everything would go, but for the most part, everything went just swimmingly. I’m going to do a separate post with more interior shots and details later, but for how here is our studio PLANT!
So many wonderful people stopped by to show their support. I was/am so grateful to all the familiar and new faces that came through the shop. It was especially cool meeting blog followers who I’ve only interacted with online previously~ Even though we’ve never met, we already have tons of common interests, so it doesn’t feel like I’m meeting a stranger. Before, I never really had much opportunity to meet blog readers (unless I had a bake sale or something), but now that I have a storefront, I can meet people face to face, and chat with them in real life! I was so touched by every customer that went out of their way and traveled from long distances to check out the new place. I’m incredibly lucky and thankful to be a part of such a supportive veggie community here in Seoul.
Another customer who lives out of Seoul, came all the way to PLANT to eat vegan cake and he also surprised me with this generous box of chips! Some of my fave US snacks~~ I’ve had the sweet potato flavor before, but not the multigrain. Can’t wait to enjoy them. All by myself. Thank you Andrew!!
The owner of MayBell Bakery (오월의 종) in Itaewon was so generous and sent two of his staff over to surprise us with bags of delicious vegan bread! I swear, the MayBell owner is the nicest, salt-of-the-earth kind of person you could meet. And his staff are equally kind and adorable. Here they are enjoying some cake and cookies.
So now PLANT is in full swing~~ it’s a big step forward for myself, Yona, and our individual businesses. We will use this opportunity to grow and learn as much as we can, be inspired, and create more, and improve as bakers/cooks, and as people.
A part of me still can’t believe that this has happened. It all started out with this vague dream, which then slowly developed into a clearer vision. Ever since I started vegan baking, I knew I eventually wanted a proper place where I could dedicate solely for my food experiments and then share it with other hungry veg-heads and omnivores too. There have been lots of bumps along the way and fears to overcome. ㅋㅋ Not to mention the big monetary investment that went into it. But so far it had been worth it. I’m grateful to my family and friends who encouraged and prayed for me all along the way. And especially to Yona and the Botton family for everything they did. Without them this would never have happened.
Anyway, to wrap things up, our opening weekend was wonderful. Thank you dear readers in Korea and also all around the world who have been following our progress and sending words of encouragement. I appreciate it more than you probably know! :) Hope you guys can all visit us someday~ To get the latest news, follow our PLANT facebook page, and twitter (@itaewonPLANT).
