It’s a quiet afternoon at the studio/cafe today~ Yona is next to me making pie crust, while I’m just taking a break and trying not to fall asleep. This morning was rather hectic with two different publications coming to photograph our studio! Somehow, the dates got mixed up and we accidentally scheduled both for the same morning, so you can imagine the chaos of two separate crews taking food and dessert photos. When we opened the studio, I don’t think either of us expected there would be so much interest in our little humble veg*an shop. It’s encouraging to see that this is something Koreans are looking for, and we’re grateful for all the support.
Other than running PLANT, there’s honestly not a whole lot else going on in my life. So boring, sorry! :( Oh, my hand that got cut two weeks ago has been causing some problems… It’s on my right hand and any thumb movement pulls on the stitches, so the healing process is painstakingly slow and it can be painful at times. I’ve been meaning to go back to the clinic this week to check on the stitches, but just haven’t been able to find the time. The last time I went, the doctor and nurse scolded me for not taking better care of the wound. haha oops. Anyway, I’m hoping this thing heals up fast so I can work freely and also do boxing again.
So I was a bit stumped on what I should blog about today, so I checked out some of the ideas on the Vegan MoFo site and have picked this prompt:
5 vegan foods I cannot live without:
1. Fresh fruit.
It was too hard to pick one fruit, but my absolute faves are soft persimmons and Korean pears. So juicy. My favorite fruit season is just about to start and I’m just beside myself with excitement. Let it begin, let it begiiinnn!!!
2. Gim (toasted laver).
I think a lot of you probably already know how much I love gim. I just crush it up and sprinkle it on everything because it adds this delicious saltiness. Korean food wouldn’t be the same without it.
I know tofu and other soy products have gotten a bad rap over the years, but I couldn’t care less. Before when I cooked meals for myself at home, I had tofu almost every day as part of my lunch or dinner. I love cubing it up and giving it a quick sautee with other veggies. And it pairs awesomely with #2, gim. :)
4. Coffee w/ nondairy milk.
Perhaps this doesn’t count as ‘food,’ but it’s something I consume every day. At least two cups. It’s hard to believe I love coffee so much now, considering I only started drinking it regularly about 4 years ago. I hated the taste of the stuff for most of my life, even in college. Sometimes I wonder how I survived college without caffeine! One thing though is I still don’t like it black… it’s always gotta have some soy milk or non-dairy milk added. :)
5. Chocolate cake.
Yes, this is a no-brainer. Rich vegan chocolate cake, especially with peanut butter frosting and chocolate ganache, just like how I make it. :) If I didn’t have to sell the cake, I would just eat the whole thing myself.
So those are just a few of my fave vegan foods/ingredients that I eat on a regular basis. Ofcourse there are so many other foods I have an intense love for (bordering on obsession), but if I imagine myself stranded on an island, I think these are the foods I’d want to have and I wouldn’t get bored of them. :)
